Two things we noted about Penny this past weekend...
1) I've never seen a dog that hasn't been afraid of the vaccuum and the lawnmower... Until I met Penny, that is. This girl is not scared of anything! This weekend my fiance and I finally had a chance to catch up on some yard work but Penny was not having it... While I was picking up pine cones and sticks, Tom began mowing. Penny, however, had other ideas. She loves to play with her soccer ball, but if you make the mistake of throwing it once, she'll keep bringing it back and begging for more! So she spent her afternoon trotting back and forth between us across the yard, dropping the ball in our paths and waiting for us to throw it. It took forever to finally finish the yard but we didn't mind - she was having a blast!
2) All dogs shed - it's a fact of life. But some dogs shed more than others. We happen to have one of those in our dog Nina. Because of this I keep lint rollers in strategic places in my house, car, and office for the occasional white hair that always seems to cling to my black pants. Sometimes Nina will shake and you can see a cloud of white hair flying off of her - our vaccuum cleaner is always filled with white hair. But something we curiously noted this weekend is that we haven't seen any black hairs... Not on the lint roller and not in the vaccuum... Penny doesn't even seem to shed when we pet her and even her dog bed only has a few hairs on it. So not only is she soft and great to snuggle with, but she keeps all of her hair to herself! Could she be any more wonderful??!! I wish she could teach our own dog to do that! ;)

Silly ears!
Penny has the silliest ears! They are usually crossing eachother on the top of her head, and they absolutely crack me up! Last night I took her and my greyhound Nina for a walk in the neighborhood, and after spotting a squirrel in a neighbor's yard, Penny definitely seemed to have a little extra pep in her step... This made for some very bouncy, floppy ears and I laughed out loud as we were walking. I just love those earsies!!!
Here's a video I took with my cell phone: (It's not a great video but you can see how great she walks on a leash!)
Isn't she pretty? I love her expressions!

Grace and poetry in motion
There is nothing more beautiful to me then watching a greyhound do what he does best - run! This weekend we snuck into a baseball field to give the dogs a good romp and although I've had my own hound for over 2 years now, I am still amazed each time I see her run... We started off with the muzzles because we weren't sure if Penny and my own greyhound Nina would get competitive. When it became clear that they were just having fun together, we took them off. Here are a few pictures of Penny showing off:

The lonely toy box...
I hate to admit this, but my greyhound Nina has a toybox with nearly 30 toys in it. Mostly they are stuffed animals with squeekers, some ropes, a few chew bones... Penny has loved this toybox from the day she stepped foot in our house. But for the past week, she has started a new routine. Each evening when I sit down to watch tv and unwind for the day, Penny pulls each toy out of the toybox and plays with them, one by one for just a few minutes before moving on to the next toy. So this means that each morning when I get up, I am cleaning up nearly 30 dog toys while the dogs go out to potty. It is quite funny to see my living room strewn with all of these toys, although most of them end up on or near the dog bed. Occasionally I'll find a lone shoe that was accidently mistaken for a toy but it is never chewed or destroyed.
Obviously Penny loves her toys. But she also loves her people... This past weekend was quite rainy in Atlanta, so I decided it would be a great time to clean the house. I gave the dogs a rawhide to keep them occupied but I soon noticed that I was being followed everywhere I went by Penny. I then realized that she was carrying her favorite (yes, she does have a favorite!) toy and was asking me to play with her! This melted my heart so I just had to take a break and spend some time with her.

Just a quickie...
Penny has been with us for a little over two weeks now, and I can honestly say that this hound is amazing! Not only is she sweet, loveable, and trusting, but she is smart too! She's is a quick learner and very eager to please. Her silly ears and goofy, loving nature just add to her charm. And have I mentioned that this girl LOVES to chase balls - she even brings them back and drops them at my feet so that I can throw them for her again! I can't wait to blog more about this great hound!

Cutie Pie
Ooooo what a cutie Ms. Penny is!! Those ears are just adorable. Her tail may be a little short, but that does not keep her from wagging it to show your just how happy she is! She loves to play with the tennis ball and is a curious little one full of energy. Come meet Penny and she will win you over!

Tennis Anyone???
Miss Penney LOVES to play with tennis balls, she ran and ran and ran and I ran and ran after her. She finally tired enough to let me get her and she gave up the tennis ball with no problem. Anyone ready to play a match with Penney. Just let us know. She's a keeper.
